Dear John, Doug, Nina, Bobby, Shannon, Brian, Terry, Steve,
Matt, Don,
Bennett, Maria, David, Hal, Mark T., Katherine, Greg, Mark B., Loren,
Bruce,
Melissa, Anne:
Awesome. Awesome. Awesome.
To all (hope I didn't forget anyone???) -- Who you all are makes
a
difference!!!
This was the most incredible, life-inspiring experiences of
my lifetime. I
spent the entire trip home reflecting on the four days and writing
down all
of the distinctions I experienced. Distinction #2 was the last assignment
from my coach back home. I have not been able to answer it until
yesterday
(Sunday). This experience allowed me tap in. I accomplished everything
I
set out to accomplish on this trip, and more.
Here are the distinctions I recognized on this trip. Funny,
none of them
has to do with climbing:
1. If you want an great life, give yourself 10% of your waking
time
everyday!!! (Crazy Matt)
2. I thrive on love, respect, communication, praise, creativity,
accomplishment, spirituality, allowing myself to be honored, bonding,
connectedness, pride, fun, self-improvement, being emotional and
open,
sharing, beauty, the outdoors, humor, and being fully connected
to the great
things I do and the great person I am.
3. Praise yourself and others - everyday!
4. I have the ability to live with 100% confidence and complete
fearlessness, to be open emotionally, mentally (both intuitively
(modelling
the Master Shannon) and intellectually - Thanks Matt for this concept),
and
physically. I have the potential to conquer all challenges that
come my
way. Those damn screws was the last time I ever look at any challenge
and
think for a moment that I can't accomplish the task at hand.
5. I reconstructed myself on this trip. I released the "self
control"
demons that don't serve me anymore.
6. Do different things. Try different things. Get out there. You
will grow and enjoy.
7. By committing to this group, and staying connected for the future
I
will connect with myself and with others.
8. I have EQ!!! It has been hidden. I am an incredible coach as
I tap
in.
9. To learn about myself, to succeed personally and professionally,
I
must get gifts from others.
10. Using my emotional muscle, allows me to be incredible, and
stregthens me further.
11. I am so confident about myself that I know now I have all of
the
internal tools to accomplish any task and any job I set my mind
to. I need
no books, no education. I just need my inner strength and the people
to
support me and share my success.
I would like to change the most significant moment on this trip
and share
the following. Too good to be true...
On the "journey" back home last night from Oakland
to San Diego, I sat next
to a girl who just graduated from UC San Diego. She just completed
her BA
in literature and women's studies. I asked her a lot about why she
enjoyed
this program and what were her goals. Her goal was to be a professor
of
literature because she enjoyed the intellectual challenge. I asked
her what
she wanted to give as a professor (thanks Hal and Matt for training
on
this), and her answer was magical. She wants to teach literature,
because
through literature she wants to help people find the inner spark
within
themselves. I told her she would have enjoyed our last four days.
Then,
more importantly, I did a ribbon ceremony on the airplane. She was
so
touched and so emotional, and this meant a lot to her.
Before this trip I would have never done anything like this.
Many of you
gave me ribbons at the dinner, and this truly moved me. I thank
Shannon,
Matt, Bennett, Don and Steve especially and all of you who truly
moved me.
This opened me up to new places that I never realized I had in myself.
The
ribbon ceremony that I undertook on the airplane was a completely
new,
emotional, no fear, loving human being that I am so excited to meet
and
explore and share with you and others!!!
My new six month goal is to have 50 ceremonies and give out
50 ribbons + an
extra ribbon. I already went to the web site blueribbons.com and
ordered
100 ribbons. I know I will go through these ribbons much quicker.
And
John, now you have something truly measurable.
In closing for today (God I miss you guys - My family is out
of town until
this afternoon, so it is very quiet here) I want to share what I
think John
Chen and Playtime, Inc. is to me...
Who is John Chen? What is Playtime, Inc.?
Ever since I met John Chen, I have been puzzled as to why I
admire him so
much. This is what I have understood:
John is a MASTER at asking questions. At any situation he knows
exactly
what to ask. Then he has the amazing talent to guide people to honor
themselves. Playtime Inc. is John Chen.
Playtime Inc. was created to enable people to ask and answer
the most
fundamental, core questions to live the life with the greatest
possibilities. Why is it called Playtime? In order to answer these
questions one needs to play; to go back to the time of unlimited
possibilities and trusted, true friendships. The time of childhood
when one
related to life through friends and play, when all was possible.
The Play experience entails preparing and undertaking a BHAG
(Big Hairy Ass
Goal) with highly empowered individuals. Through interaction with
this
group, who are focused at creating fantastic lives, people are given
the
permission to honor others and themselves and make major distinctions
that
will dramatically effect their lives.
Oh, and by the way, this group of professionals summits the
most physically
and emotionally challenging peak in the lower 48 states.
Thanks John. Thanks all. Each of you significantly inspired
me, moved me,
touch me, and changed my life.
Looking forward to our new lives together.
Love,
Mitch

John,
Once again, thank you.
I am so glad I read your email, called you, booked this thing,
and went on the Journey 2000. It was awesome. Why? Because of all
the things I have rediscovered about myself, and because of the
people I have met, like you.
Anything worth doing is worth doing. Plan it. Break it down.
Work it. And give a little every day. It will become reality. Have
a reason. Get help. Stay the course. Keep momentum. Be smart. Use
your resources. Enjoy the journey. Give something back. Believe
in yourself and others. Challenge and empower. Then your life will
be lived well spent.
I am honored to call you my friend.

Hi John,
I did not get the chance to acknowledge you for turning the journey
from an idea on paper to the reality that I experienced over the
4 days. Seeing and hearing the pride and passion that you have for
this creation was amazing. Witnessing the enthusiasm and excitement
as you shared this experience and ones still to be born with others
was inspiring. I could see the congruency in the way you walked
and talked about the journey. There is a sparkle and twinkle in
your eyes when you share the journey and experiences that got you
to the culmination of this years journey. My hat goes off to you.
The last 4 days have helped make new distinctions. Many need need
to be sorted and clarified. The journey during and through the climb
have raised new distinctions and more questions.
Time to gather my thoughts.
I am grateful you are the man.

Hi John!
I would like to thank you (and Anne) for inviting me to participate
in the
Journey 2000. When Anne first told me about the climb, I did not
consider
that this would be more than just a challenging climb up a big mountain.
However, I now realize that you created a forum for much more than
the
physical experience of the climb.
While I do not know you well, I am very impressed with your
maturity and
wisdom. I respect your passion to help others grow. You have taken
bold
steps to create a mechanism (Playtime) which will facilitate this.
Yours is
noble work.
I suppose I could go back over each and every detail of the
Journey 2000
experience and offer you compliments for that which was extremely
well done
and also some suggestions about how you could improve certain aspects
of the
program. However, I sense that others (including Anne) have given
you that
feedback. Instead, I would like to encourage you to refine and amplify
the
message that the climb up Mt. Rainier is an incredible metaphor
for the
manner in which we should embrace goals and challenges in life.
I look forward to further adventures with you!
With respect,
Terry
